The souvenir was made in 1950 for the Bach celebrations (the 200th anniversary of the composer's death in Leipzig), presented to D. D. Shostakovich during his stay in the German Democratic Republic in 1950 in honor of the composer's participation in the concert program of the celebrations.
A set of dishes “D. Shostakovich, “The Bolt”, gift series “Russian Ballet”, collection porcelain based on sketches of theatrical costumes for the first production of the ballet by artist Tatyana Bruni. The set was produced by the Leningrad Porcelain Factory in a limited edition.

The antique figurine was bought by Irina Shostakovich for the anniversary of Mstislav Rostropovich in 2007. The gift was not presented. According to Irina Shostakovich, Rostropovich collected souvenirs depicting a cello.
