  This publication is based on the 1984 edition (Collected Works, Vol. 33, Muzyka Publishers, Moscow). The music text has been collated with the author’s manuscript kept in Dmitri Shostakovich’s Archive (rec. gr. 1, section 1, f. 190). When necessary, the first 1975 edition (Muzyka Publishers, Moscow) and edition of the author’s version for bass and symphony orchestra, Op. 145a (Collected Works, Vol. 31, Muzyka Publishers, Moscow, 1982) are taken into account.
